1. Local functions – what things can I do locally

Local access grants you to reset your gateway and discover or remove devices/cameras. In addition to local access, you also receive every remote access feature on the local computer.

2. Do I have to make any changes to the firewall setup on my computer?

You do not need to make any firewall changes. The only change you may want to set up within your computer is port forwarding. Port forwarding will allow to you have a port dedicated solely for the cameras. If you have a firewall and you are unable to register your gateway – then you may want to temporary turn it off.

3. Will the system interfere with wifi/cordless phones?

Our wireless devices run on a 418MHz frequency. Most products/phones around a home run on a 2.4 GHz connection, there should be no inferences.

4. What kind of cameras can be used?

BEHOME 24/7 currently supports four types of the following cameras: BeHome PAN/TILT, BeHome Stationary IP Camera, BeHome 2000 ProZoom, and BeHome 3000 ProZoom. All of the cameras are strictly configured to work only with our BEHOME 24/7 Gateway.

5. How many cameras can I have connected at the same time?

BEHOME 24/7 Gateway allows up to 8 cameras to be registered with the system at the same time.

6. What wireless sensors are available?

We currently carry 10 wireless sensors. Our sensors include a Wireless Repeater, Wireless Motion Sensor, Wireless Water Sensor, Wireless Temperature Sensor, Wireless Door/Window Sensor, Thermostat, Siren, Wireless Keypad and Wireless Lamp Dimmer.

7. How many sensors can I have connected?

Up to 32 different sensors can be connected at the same time.

8. Will my mobile phone interfere with this system?

Mobile phones do not interfere with the BEHOME 24/7 Gateway

9. I have a summer home. Can I use the same remote account with two gateways?

Yes, we can attach multiple gateways to one username.

10. Do I need a high speed internet connection? How fast?

Highspeed internet access with a router is required for this system. The BEHOME 24/7 Gateway supports any DSL, Cable or T1 connection. We currently do not support Satellite, Dial-in DSL or a 56K modem connection.

11. Can I control the system by using a computer outside of my house? How far away can it be.

The PC that you are using to set up the gateway needs to be on the same local network as the gateway. Once you have the system set up, you can access the gateway devices through the MyBeHome247.com remote service account. All you need is a computer and internet access.

12. Can I use a laptop computer to control the gateway?

Yes, laptops work fine with the BeHome 24/7 Gateway, as long as they are connected to your home network via a router.

13. I already have some X10 lighting controls in my house. Can I combine these into one system with the gateway?

X-10 devices are not compatible with our BEHOME 24/7 Gateway.

14. My home is wired with CAT5 network cabling. Do I still need the PLCs?

No. You can use standard network cabling to connect you cameras to the network.

15. My router only has four ports. I have two PC’s, an BeHome 24/7 gateway, and one camera. What do I do to add more cameras?

You can add more cameras, but you need somewhere to plug them into the network. This can easily be done by purchasing an inexpensive network switch or hub. Just plug the hub or switch into the router and plug the cameras into the hub or switch using standard network cables.

16. I have a webcam on my PC. Can I view it remotely through the gateway?

No. The gateway can only communicate with the supported IP cameras.

17. Can I monitor water temperature with the temp sensor?

Yes, you can monitor the temperature of water with a temperature sensor.

18. I’m running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME on my computer. Can I use this to access the gateway?

The operating systems that BEHOME 24/7 Gateway supports is Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP Home/Pro and Windows Vista. We do not support any earlier version or Windows or any Media Edition version.

19. Is the system compatible with the Apple Macintosh?

Yes

20. What are the PC system requirements? How much RAM/Disk Space do I need?

You need a PC running Windows XP or Windows 2000, and 256 MB of RAM and 1 MB of available disk space. The interface is browser based. You can use Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape. In addition, you need a broadband internet connection, and a router with at least two available ports.

21. What is the file format for the saved snapshots and video clips?

The file format for the snapshots is JPEG and video clips are in QuickTime.
